Notes from the Legislature

  • Last week…
    • The Depart­ment of Edu­ca­tion and State Board of Edu­ca­tion gave their bud­get pre­sen­ta­tions before the House and Sen­ate Edu­ca­tion Com­mit­tees.
    • HB940, which would change the way char­ter schools are autho­rized, gen­er­at­ed a lot of dis­cus­sion in a House sub­com­mit­tee, ulti­mate­ly pass­ing out to full com­mit­tee. Anoth­er bill that got a lot of atten­tion in com­mit­tee was the Governor’s school safe­ty bill (HB 947) that seeks to increase SRO pres­ence in schools. Expect to hear more about both of the­se pieces of leg­is­la­tion in upcom­ing weeks.
  • This week…
    • The Governor’s Edu­ca­tion Sav­ings Account bill is expect­ed to be heard in the House Cur­ricu­lum, Test­ing, and Inno­va­tion Sub­com­mit­tee on Tues­day. The bill has not been set to be heard in the Sen­ate yet.
