Notes from the Legislature

  • Last week… Gov­er­nor Lee gave his State of the State address, pre­sent­ing his bud­get pro­pos­al to the Gen­er­al Assem­bly. High­lights includ­ed his edu­ca­tion, crim­i­nal jus­tice, and health care pri­or­i­ties. Com­mit­tees passed the administration’s bills on increas­ing the num­ber of CTE dual enroll­ment cours­es (GIVE Act) and fund­ing school safe­ty. We’ll see more of the governor’s bills mak­ing their way through com­mit­tee in upcom­ing weeks.
  • This week… Bills being heard in com­mit­tee this week include requir­ing a report on high­er edu­ca­tion for incar­cer­at­ed indi­vid­u­als, estab­lish­ing an office for appren­tice­ship and work-study pro­grams, report­ing on instruc­tion­al salaries and wages, and career apti­tude assess­ments for stu­dents.
