Notes from the Legislature

  • Last week… The House and Sen­ate Edu­ca­tion Com­mit­tees heard a hand­ful of bills includ­ing ones con­cern­ing char­ter schools iden­ti­fied as pri­or­i­ty schools, the use of stu­dent growth data to ben­e­fit teach­ers, and increas­ing the mid­dle col­lege schol­ar­ship.  Expect to see the­se bills on the House and Sen­ate floors soon. Edu­ca­tion Sub­com­mit­tees heard bills on top­ics includ­ing the updat­ing of spe­cial edu­ca­tion laws, ear­ly learn­ing pro­grams, and LEA fund­ing regard­ing cer­tain men­tal health facil­i­ties.
  • This week… The edu­ca­tion com­mit­tees will hear bills regard­ing changes to dual enroll­ment grant pro­grams, post­sec­ondary readi­ness exams, teacher eval­u­a­tions, fund­ing pro­grams that address school safe­ty, alter­na­tive grad­u­a­tion path­ways, and more.
