Notes from the Legislature — Bills are starting to make their way through committee

  • Last week… Edu­ca­tion com­mit­tees start­ed see­ing more bills mak­ing their way through the com­mit­tee process. 
    • The Sen­ate Edu­ca­tion Com­mit­tee heard pre­sen­ta­tions from the Uni­ver­si­ty of Mem­phis and from THEC direc­tor, Mike Krause, on “Col­lege Readi­ness and Reme­di­a­tion.” The Com­mit­tee also had 3 bills on it’s agen­da that all passed to Cal­en­dar.
    • The House Edu­ca­tion Com­mit­tee heard a pre­sen­ta­tion from THEC regard­ing the “State of High­er Edu­ca­tion,” not­ing that some of the chal­lenges it’s fac­ing include rural access and the chang­ing future of work.
  • This week.… All edu­ca­tion com­mit­tees and sub­com­mit­tees have bills on their cal­en­dars! A few of the bills we are track­ing that will come before com­mit­tee address assess­ments, ACE train­ing, and restora­tive jus­tice dis­ci­pline.
