Notes from the Legislature — Bill Filling Complete

  • Last week… The bill fil­ing dead­line for the House and Sen­ate was last week. There were 214 Edu­ca­tion bills filed. Edu­ca­tion com­mit­tees met for pre­sen­ta­tions.
    • The Sen­ate Edu­ca­tion Com­mit­tee heard pre­sen­ta­tions from SCORE and the Depart­ment of Edu­ca­tion regard­ing assess­ment updates.
    • The House Edu­ca­tion Com­mit­tee was vis­it­ed by Com­mis­sion­er Pen­ny Schwinn and Dr. Sharon Griffin from the Depart­ment of Edu­ca­tion to give an update on Achieve­ment School Dis­tricts.
  • Next week…
    • The Sen­ate Edu­ca­tion Com­mit­tees will hear pre­sen­ta­tions from the Uni­ver­si­ty of Mem­phis on “Pub­lic Pri­vate Part­ner­ship Update” and from THEC direc­tor, Mike Krause, on “Col­lege Readi­ness and Reme­di­a­tion.” The Com­mit­tee also has 3 bills on it’s agen­da.
    • The House Edu­ca­tion Com­mit­tee will also hear pre­sen­ta­tions from the Uni­ver­si­ty of Mem­phis and from THEC regard­ing the “State of High­er Edu­ca­tion.” No bills are in com­mit­tee this week.
    • House Edu­ca­tion Sub­com­mit­tees: The Edu­ca­tion Admin­is­tra­tion Sub­com­mit­tee has 4 bills on the agen­da. Cur­ricu­lum, Test­ing, & Inno­va­tion Sub­com­mit­tee will meet to review 2 bills.
