As the number of students of color in Tennessee public schools continues to grow, policymakers must pay special attention to the unique set of challenges and opportunities many of these students face. The Tennessee Educational Equity Coalition holds a unique position to advocate for such students since it represents a diverse group of community members, parents, educators, and other education advocates across the state.
Research-based practices that could yield promising results in helping close the achievement gap for historically underserved students in Tennessee must also guide this group’s work. SCORE is committed to helping the Coalition identify an agenda that outlines actionable policy levers for education stakeholders in the next year. These actions could help drive the advocacy efforts of Coalition members by providing a shared framework for policy priorities.
